How Many Cupcakes Does it Take to Feel a Feeling?

Anthony, my 19 month old son, was playing with a train at the Sip and Play Café a few months back. As he was innocently pushing the train around the track, another toddler shoved him in the chest. Stumbling to regain his footing, he turned to me with a look of pure shock, then started to cry. That look– the lips all puffed out, tears streaming down his cheeks — breaks my heart every time. Immediately I scooped him up and bought him a cupcake. I placed the cupcake in front of him and all became right with the world once again.

Be Nice!

I’m a mother of 17 month old twins. I take them to an indoor play gym once a week at the local community center. Toddlers, I’m learning, hit, pinch, bite and scream. I often observe them subjecting each other to this behavior in the hopes of obtaining exclusive access to that coveted piece of Little Tykes equipment.
