Stop waiting to be ready!

by Amy on April 6, 2015

I hate video.

I hate to be in front of the camera.

I hate planning out what to say… the endless false starts because I couldn’t remember my words or I stuttered or a kid walked in.

The experts say I have to edit my videos, add a fancy intro sequence, and hire a professional videographer.

Then there’s hair and makeup.

Ugh!

All of it feels soooo overwhelming. Which is why I haven’t done any video.

Until today.

I’m trying something new today in my business. Video!

Each week, I plan to offer a bite-sized biz tip for coaches (and entrepreneurs in general).

So today’s tip is STOP WAITING TO BE READY.

Take a sec, and get a pen.

Write down the word READY.

After you write it down, go back and cross it out! Preferably with a big red sharpie!

Then tape that piece of paper on your computer!

Because:

You will never be ready!

Which is why I decided to film my first EVER video for you in this series with no make-up (and very very bad hair!)

No editing.

No intro sequence.

No professional videographer.

Boom. Done.

It took me about 15 minutes.

The point is that if you’re like most coaches you’re making things to hard.

You still don’t have a freebie because you keep going back and forth over the exact “right” thing to offer. You keep making minuscule tweaks to that blurb you planned on posting last week about your free consult. You don’t call woman back… the one who wanted to talk to you about coaching… because you don’t have a coaching program “ready.”

For the love of all things holy! STOP THAT.

Building your business is NOT an intellectual exercise. TWEET THAT

No amount of proof reading, spell checking and market research is going to help you move forward.

What does work is ACTION, ready or not.

Because action gets results — Sometimes good results and sometimes bad results.

As an entrepreneur you don’t care.

You want the feedback.

You post your freebie? 100 sign ups today! Feedback!

You post your blurb to Facebook? Crickets! Feedback!

You call that lead back? She tells you she doesn’t want to sign up for a 3 month program, she needs a coach for six months! Feedback!

Every time you get a result, bad or good, you mine it for feedback.

Then you get back into action.

And see if it goes better the next time.

Now get out there and do something!

My challenge to you:

Post a comment below, telling me one action you’ll take in your business this week, ready or not!

I’m going to pick a networking meeting to attend to put myself out there to talk to people about the coaching transformation I can provide! I will pick the group that resonates the best, find their next meeting date and put it on the calendar, then practice my sales conversations to prepare for it. Thanks, Amy! I’m not-ready-READY!

Hi Amy–I love the “Just Go For It” message you’ve written. And I love that you took your own medicine and did a video, without being “ready”. Rock on!

I’m going to email my friends and family, letting them know about my new Play More, Worry Less life coaching package. I’m going to invite them to a free strategy session with me, and invite them to enroll as clients. Plus I’ll ask them to forward the message on to people they think might be interested. Yes!

Thank you for the encouragement. 🙂 Kathy

This week, I’m going to line up friends and blog readers (of a blog I contribute to for fun) for a trial webinar. They will be with me as I work out the technology bugs. I’ll also offer them the opportunity to be the beta testers for my new group program.

I’m designing a course on leadership and even though I feel like I need to read like 7 more books I’m writing the description for the retreat center and my blog exactly as it occurs to me in my heart and through my experience. It is all about embodied leadership — how to make change and preserve yourself along the way. Anyway I’m very excited to begin to step into my own “thought leader big girl” shoes and not need quite so many other experts in my pocket. Thanks for the tip! warmly, Courtney Pinkerton

You just need to be a few steps ahead to be of service! Remember that! You go girl!

Fabulous Amy! More do and less worry.I’m speaking in Atlanta this week at a business conference. It’s caused a bit of anxiety but deep breath. Ready or not, here I come. I’m looking forward to your next video.

Time to stop getting ready and launch eBook series even with no list or partners. As I get them out there, I can start a list and ask others (potential partners) to look at me with more trust as I prove my expertise.
